Survey tracks who’s using Internet for health information

Study ties low health literacy to poorer health outcomes

Researchers reviewed 96 studies and found that patients with poor health literacy were more likely to be hospitalized and to visit emergency departments and were less likely to receive flu shots, mammograms and other preventive services.  The study in the Annals of Internal Medicine noted that the link between low health literacy in older adults and higher death risk persisted even after controlling for factors such as income and education, but the evidence doesn’t prove that the link is attributable to health literacy alone.  Reuters (7/19).

Inducted into HHFMA Hall of Fame

HAMDEN, CT August 3, 2011 – Robert Simione, Managing Principal, Simione Consultants and HHFMA Chair, announced the induction of Bill Simione, Jr., Founding Member, Simione Consultants, into the Home Care & Hospice Financial Managers Association (HHFMA) Hall of Fame.

“I was thrilled to be a part of the presentation of this most prestigious award!  Bill is a true visionary and leader in home care and hospice and therefore a wonderful addition to the HHFMA Hall of Fame”, said Bob Simione.

The announcement of Bill’s induction took place last month at the NAHC Financial Managers Conference in San Diego.

“Being honored by the Home Care & Hospice Financial Managers Association as an inductee into the HHFMA Hall of Fame was truly overwhelming.  The real recognition goes to the members of HHFMA who have worked hard and have given back to home health and hospice more than they have received.  I thank the Advisory Committee and the Work Group for their ongoing support and dedication.  We have come a long way together since we started as a small gang of six comprised of providers, consultants and CMS (formerly HCFA) staff during the early 70s.  I thank you!,” stated Bill Simione, Jr.
